Canon Europa, world’s best imaging company and a leading global brand, is looking for a Senior VAT Specialist to join our dynamic tax team. In this role, you will be instrumental in advising Canon's diverse business units and ensuring VAT compliance across the EMEA region

Together with the members of the tax department you'll be responsible for supporting the day to day business and transformation to the digitization of VAT for our 52 VAT numbers in 25 countries. You'll be working with a variety of departments with the headquarters of Canon in the EMEA region (Finance, IT, Marketing, Sales etc.) as well as with our national sales organizations.

Canon has complex business processes and supply chains, import, export, local and intra-community purchases and sales of both goods and services. The systems setups to maximize compliant transactions are extensive and require analytical skills to comprehend issues and solutions. Furthermore, there’s continuous projects and improvements that require your VAT knowledge to ensure that Canon remains compliant.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Provide VAT Advice: Offer guidance to EMEA business units on VAT implications of their business models and transactions.
  • Support e-Reporting: Help implement e-reporting and manage VAT issues across EMEA, including risk mitigation and data analysis.
  • Improve Systems: Translate business needs into VAT requirements for system improvements using the Onesource tax engine.
  • Ensure Compliance: Participate in projects to ensure VAT compliance, especially when expanding into new markets or jurisdictions.
  • Track Developments: Monitor VAT changes in the EMEA region and prepare responses to VAT inquiries and audits.
  • Manage Relationships: Maintain relationships with external VAT advisors, tax authorities, and service providers.
  • Analyze Data: Identify and track potential VAT issues using data analysis, and provide support to the VAT compliance team as needed.

 

What we ask

  • Educational Background: Master’s degree in Fiscal Law, Fiscal Economics, or a similar field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years' experience in international VAT.
  • Skills: Strong communication and analytical skills. Fluency in English is required; Dutch is a plus.
  • Attributes: Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive mentality and a positive attitude.
  • Technical Knowledge: Experience with Oracle/Onesource tax engine is a plus. Knowledge in IT/VAT automation is preferred and / or should be developed further in this role.
