Kings Catering & Events provides a range of retail and hospitality services through our restaurants, coffee
shops and event spaces across The Strand, Waterloo, Denmark Hill and Guys campuses.

The Strategic Direction within King’s Catering & Events is focused on ensuring that the department significantly enhances the experience of students and wider stakeholders. The post holder will be expected to support the department’s drive for service excellence, financial sustainability and strategic growth. This will involve close collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure that services align with the expectations of the wider organisation. You will ensure the effective implementation of joined up service delivery across the whole department, whilst demonstrating a culture of excellence in every aspect of the role.
About the role:
The Business Services & Compliance Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring that King’s Food and King’s Venues operate efficiently, transparently, and in full compliance with financial, legal, and procurement standards. Central to the role is the responsibility for maintaining timely and accurate trading reports, overseeing a robust stocktaking function, and ensuring that operational teams use these systems correctly. By managing the full procurement process, the manager works closely with senior leaders to secure the best possible service, pricing, and value from suppliers, ensuring that all purchasing activity aligns with organisational expectations and industry best practice.
A major focus of the role is the effective use of departmental software. The manager ensures that all systems remain relevant, reliable, and fit for purpose, capturing essential data that can be transformed into meaningful insights. Through detailed analysis of financial, sales, and operational information, the manager identifies opportunities to improve business performance while maintaining high standards of customer service. These insights support strategic decision‑making and help drive continuous improvement across both departments.
The role requires close collaboration with the Head of Business Services & Development to ensure that all operations remain financially robust and compliant with procurement regulations. This includes managing financial forecasting and reporting processes such as budgeting, live P&L trading reports, purchase orders, and stock control. The manager also oversees the daily and weekly integration of EPOS systems with Business World, ensuring data accuracy and operational continuity.
Supplier management is another key responsibility. The manager supports supplier invoicing, resolves account queries, and manages supplier records within Procure Wizard. They also work with TUCO and other tender platforms to ensure that supplier relationships deliver best value, best service, and full compliance with procurement frameworks.

The role contributes to menu development by ensuring that financial considerations and operational constraints are fully understood and incorporated. By maintaining a strong financial perspective, the manager helps guide the department toward sustainable and cost‑effective decision‑making.
Finally, the Business Services & Compliance Manager plays an important developmental role within the department. They continually challenge and support the team to strengthen financial awareness, improve processes, and adopt best practice. Through this combination of operational oversight, analytical insight, and strategic collaboration, the manager ensures that King’s Food and King’s Venues remain efficient, compliant, and well‑positioned for ongoing success.
This is a full time (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract
About you:
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
1. Financial and Procurement related Qualifications or Relevant Demonstratable Experience.
2. Experience running competitive tenders for supplies within the catering sector.
3. IT Skills across Microsoft office.
4. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. The ability to deal effectively with students, staff, internal and external partners.
5. Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills.
6. Ability to prioritise work effectively under own motivation to achieve short-, medium- and long-term objectives.
7. Ability to work on own initiative and collaboratively when required.
Desirable criteria
