Surrey and Sussex Cancer Alliance (SSCA) are excited to be expanding their Cancer Education Programme and are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and passionate coordinator.  

The established Cancer Education Programme delivers education to professionals in health and social care services across Surrey and Sussex.  The aim of the programme is to increase the knowledge and confidence of professionals working with patients and clients who are living with and beyond cancer.  Courses include ‘foundations in cancer care’, ‘cancer as a long-term condition’, supporting patients across the cancer pathway’, ‘living with and beyond breast cancer’ and many more.

You will be a critical member of the team and will help to shape and deliver our educational packages.  There is also the opportunity to get involved with filming and editing educational content for videos so we are particularly interested to hear from people with experience in this area.

Main duties of the job

Coordinating and supporting cancer education programme across Frimley, Surrey and Sussex to improve patient experience across the whole cancer pathway.

The Cancer Education Programme Coordinator role is to support the improvement in the quality of cancer care provided by health and care professionals across Surrey and Sussex. The role includes coordinating and supporting training on cancer from prevention and screening, through treatment and care to living with and beyond cancer.

The post holder is responsible for the provision and organisation of high quality administrative and secretarial skills that support the successful delivery of the Cancer Education Programme.  

The post holder will ensure trainings are efficiently planned, coordinated and organised, so that educational sessions run smoothly and efficiently The post holder will be co-ordinating the overall education training schedule, preparing all relevant correspondence and papers, ensuring accurate and open communication with participants of the programme. 

The post holder will facilitate and inform the interface of cancer pathways between health and social care and support the implementation of national/local guidance. The post holder will also identify and highlight any gaps in service provision.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Experience of planning and managing events

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience of providing administrative support
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Extensive knowledge of administrative procedures including experience of taking minutes
  • Website and social media management
Desirable criteria
  • Basic knowledge of project management principles
  • Experience of working in a supportive role within a team to help ensure the delivery of a shared goal
  • Video filming and editing
