Holding a full driving licence and having a car is necessary to the role.

The working pattern will be Tuesday until Saturdays which entails weekend working and bank holiday working. 

This is a fixed term contract due to end when the postholder returns to the role. At this point we cannot confirm exactly how long this contract will last, but it is unlikely to be more than 9 months.

As the Hinton Ampner Collections and House Officer, you will mainly be based at Hinton Ampner and report directly to the House & Collections Manager, who works across Hinton and Uppark. You will work collaboratively with the Senior Collections and House Officer who manages the two part-time Collections Assistants on various conservation and collections management tasks. You will develop displays to bring the house to life and create an exciting visitor experience. The work also involves going to Uppark to support the team of two Collections and House Officers.  

As the Collections and House Officer, you’ll be responsible for opening the house every day, and making sure there are enough people in the right places to give visitors a consistently good experience. 

Supervised by a Senior Collections and House Officer, you’ll be responsible for routine conservation, preventive conservation and the annual programme of deep cleaning. Your attention and expertise will help to ensure excellent standards of care throughout the house.  

You’ll collect and record information gathered during cleaning and housekeeping, to improve our knowledge and understanding of the house and all that’s in it. You’ll use preventive conservation methods to improve how we look after everything, and how we present it to visitors.

Hinton Ampner is part of the Hinton Group which comprises of Hinton Ampner, Uppark House & Gardens, Winchester City Mill, Selborne & Ludshott Commons. You will be mainly based at Hinton Ampner and you will be also working at Uppark House from time to time.
