We have a fantastic opportunity to join the Engineering team at Greggs as Engineering Manager at our new site in the Kettering area. This role offers a unique opportunity to be part of the projects team during the construction phase, before stepping into the Engineering Manager position as the site opens.

We are seeking a talented candidate who can develop and manage Engineering resources to ensure our assets meet the needs of the business, while also ensuring legal compliance of our facilities and assets. Additionally, you will play a vital role in driving continuous improvement across the Engineering function in areas such as plant and facilities maintenance, hygiene, safety, food safety, and people management.

Vacancy Introduction

  • This is a full-time role, however flexibility in this will be considered

What you’ll do

  • Project manage key parts of the site build, with a key focus on site infrastructure, automation, and installation of the first production line alongside the Greggs Central Engineering projects team.
  • Engage, Recruit, train, mentor and manage the new site engineering team from the bottom up to ensure the site complies with all Greggs standards and pledge commitment while also bringing new ideas and industry best practice to make this facility truly state of the art in every sense.
  • Develop and embed a forward thinking, collaborative and supportive culture where the whole team plays a part in the performance of the facility while taking individual accountability.
  • Develop and manage the overall engineering and maintenance strategy for the site ensuring all strategies and policies align with the Greggs pledge and strategic vision.
  • Manage the on-going Engineering Aspects of Legal Compliance for Site Facilities & Assets, Safety-Health-Environment and Food Safety as well as delivering Excellence in Managing our Assets.
  • Manage Capital Projects as Required by the Business – Plan, organise and deliver local projects to Group standards in line with Cost-Schedule-Performance requirements and in line with New Equipment Introduction process.
  • Manage, monitor and champion effective and efficient use of Utilities – Monitor and promote minimal use of utilities and manage supply risks working alongside the Group services and utilities engineer with a culture of continuous improvement in all areas.

About you

You will fit right into this role if you:

  • Have a successful FMCG Engineering Manager track record
  • A thorough understanding of chilled / ambient automated storage and picking systems and a strong background in distribution would be advantageous
  • Are commercially astute with a thorough understanding of managing budgets and performance metrics in an FMCG environment with continuous improvement at the forefront of your thinking.
  • Are an outstanding leader and problem solver, capable of identifying and rectifying the root cause of the issue with a permanent solution
  • Have experience of leading and coaching Engineering Technicians to unlock and develop the potential of the personnel working within your teams and the site as a whole.
  • Are IT literate with good level of competence in key Microsoft packages (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) MS project and AutoCad knowledge would be advantageous
  • Have a record of accomplishment of leading & improving safety within an Engineering function. A formal health and safety qualification would be an advantage.
  • Have a minimum 5 years management experience in a FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) or similar manufacturing business.
  • Have experience of delivering local capital projects
  • Have an HNC or higher in an engineering discipline, or appropriate experience at a suitable level, coupled with appropriate real world experience in complex manufacturing environments.

Some UK or international travel may be required to visit suppliers or other sites therefore a full UK driving licence would be required for this role.
