Estimator (Electrical) –
Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Electrical Estimator to join our team, supporting the delivery of major water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

The role will be responsible for preparing accurate, competitive and commercially robust estimates for electrical works across clean water, wastewater, treatment works, pumping stations and associated infrastructure. You will work closely with the pre-construction, engineering, commercial and project delivery teams to develop solutions that meet client requirements, programme expectations and budget constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed estimates, cost plans and tenders for electrical works within the water and wastewater sector.
  • Review tender documentation, drawings, specifications, schedules and scope information to identify project requirements.
  • Develop accurate labour, plant, materials, subcontract and specialist supplier costs.
  • Obtain and assess quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Carry out detailed take-offs and quantify electrical equipment, materials and installation requirements.
  • Identify risks, opportunities, exclusions and assumptions within tender packages.
  • Liaise with electrical engineers, designers, suppliers, subcontractors and project teams to validate estimates.
  • Work collaboratively with mechanical, civils, process and construction estimators to develop integrated project estimates.
  • Support value engineering and identify opportunities to improve cost, programme and constructability.
  • Prepare tender submissions, pricing schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure estimates are developed in line with company procedures, governance and commercial requirements.
  • Participate in tender adjudications and present estimates, assumptions, risks and opportunities to senior stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate estimating records and contribute to post-tender reviews and lessons learned.
  • Support the development of estimating processes, cost databases and benchmarking information.
  • Build effective relationships with clients, delivery partners, suppliers and subcontractors

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

You will have proven experience working as an Electrical Estimator, ideally within the UK water, utilities, infrastructure, M&E or construction sectors.

You will be commercially aware, highly analytical and able to interpret technical information and translate it into accurate project costs. You will also be confident working to deadlines and managing multiple tenders simultaneously.

Essential

  • Experience in electrical estimating within construction, infrastructure, utilities or a similar environment.
  • Strong understanding of electrical installation methods, materials, equipment and associated costs.
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications, schedules and scopes of work.
  • Experience producing detailed estimates and tender submissions.
  • Experience obtaining and analysing supplier and subcontractor quotations.
  • Strong commercial and financial awareness.
  • Excellent attention to detail and numerical ability.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and estimating software/packages.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working within the water and wastewater sector.
  • Knowledge of AMP programmes and UK water industry clients.
  • Experience estimating works involving water and wastewater treatment assets, pumping stations, MCCs, control panels, instrumentation, LV systems and associated electrical infrastructure.
  • Understanding of NEC contracts and the commercial principles associated with infrastructure projects.
  • Relevant electrical qualification or technical background.

Qualifications

  • Degree/HND level qualified or equivalent in electrical engineering related discipline.
  • Relevant professional qualification or membership of a recognised industry body.
  • Experience working on major UK water infrastructure programmes such as AMP delivery programmes.
