About the role
The Export Operations Specialist serves as the sole process owner and point of contact for international customers and vendors. This role is responsible for managing the flow of goods and information globally by exercising a high level of discretion while developing and implementing innovative support strategies. The incumbent is responsible for leveraging internal and external stakeholders and customer and vendor relationships to successfully manage air/sea/ground transportation, customs brokerage services, and dedicated warehousing/distribution centers. Additionally, the Export Operations Specialist is responsible for providing dedicated customer support to deliver on customized customer needs. The overall goal is to work with Planning, Supply, and Logistics to provide a high level of service to our internal and external customers.
Your responsibilities
- Act as sole point of contact and successfully liaise between suppliers/customers, carriers, freight forwarders and departments within the RB (Sales, Finance, Transportation, Demand Planning, Production, Regulatory and Marketing)
- Complete process of shipment including arranging for pick-up or inland transportation, booking, document preparation; including, but not limited to the USDA, Health Department, FDA, and Customs. Follow-up with tracking and tracing to final destination and data quality requirement. Provide guidance for government regulations, policies, and guidelines mandated by government agencies
- Maintain proper HTS codes, Schedule B codes, FDA codes, valuation and country of origin, entry and export procedures, understanding and knowledge of contracts, tariffs, discounts, accessorial charges and other price related issues to work with 3PL's to resolve freight payment discrepancies and provide root cause analysis
- Work with Suppliers importing goods into the USA to ensure correctness of import documents and the appropriate transportation method
- Interface with the MJN Customs Broker to ensure correctness of US Customs and FDA filings and release documents
- Lead/actively participate in regular meetings with planners surrounding supply, goods in transit, upcoming project changes to mitigate delays to service
- Make independent decisions to determine and present the best mode of transportation to customers to maintain service levels agreements, decrease cost, and comply with relevant laws
- Respond to inquiries regarding order changes, unforecasted order requests and timing of expected shipments by consulting databases, queries, and conferring with plant planners
- Manage order quantity and timing with manufacturing variances to target to eliminate or minimize write -offs of inventory and meet with on time shipment deliverables
- Communicate with warehousing/logistics regarding order status, consolidation potential, and desired ship dates for markets replenished to a targeted day supply
- Execute the required steps to ensure that supporting SAP system master data is proactively set up to permit ordering and shipment of new items for markets
- Work to reduce cycle time for order fulfillment through timely communication of information to third party logistics provider and recommending changes to business processes
- Communicate ideas effectively to ensure accuracy and consistency of understanding of events, plans and consequences
- Establish strong internal and external working relationships and demonstrates diplomacy when dealing with sensitive information
- Enter forecast for Trade customers in SAP to ensure timely production and shipments
- Create and maintain SOP (standard operating procedures) and vendor profiles including key contacts, special requirements, contract rates and preferred routings/services/carriers
- Perform other duties as requested
The experience we're looking for
- 2+ years of import/export experience or combined experience in import/export, logistics, customer service, and planning
- Bachelor’s degree in business, international logistics, or transportation, preferred
- Strong verbal and written communications skills
- Knowledge of Import and Export policies/ incoterms, preferred
- Experience with order management systems
- Able to establish strong internal and external working relationships and demonstrates diplomacy when dealing with sensitive information
- Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources to maximize personal and function productivity and efficiency
- Recognize and proactively adjust schedules and resources to meet objectives
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to changes in the business, changing plans and tactics as desired to meet objectives
- Strong Organizational skills

- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- SAP experience strongly preferred
