About the role
About the role
We’re looking for a proactive and community‑focused Highway Maintenance Officer to help keep Cambridgeshire’s highway network safe, resilient, and well‑maintained.
In this frontline role, you will oversee reactive, and / or cyclical maintenance across footways, cycle routes, carriageways and public rights of way – ensuring the network meets the needs and expectations of our communities.
You’ll collaborate closely with residents, contractors, parish and town councils, and internal teams to deliver high‑quality maintenance works, respond to incidents, and contribute to Cambridgeshire County Council’s commitment to excellent customer service and a safe, efficient highway network.

About you
Essential qualifications/experience
- A‑Levels / NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent).
- HND (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Highways or Construction.
- Experience working in highways or construction sectors.
- Strong organisational, communication and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and prioritise competing demands.
- Confident IT skills across Microsoft applications.
- Understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Ability to contribute to the Council’s Net Zero 2030 commitment.
- Flexibility to travel to sites (including locations with limited public transport) and occasionally work outside standard hours.
Desirable
- NRSWA Streetworks Supervisor qualification.
- Knowledge of highway legislation (e.g., Highways Act 1980, NRSWA 1991).
- Experience in customer or community engagement.
- Awareness of sustainable practices in highways and drainage
