Ocean Network Express is looking for a Port Operations Coordinator to join our Operations team in Southampton. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience in shipping or port operations who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys working closely with terminals, vendors, and internal stakeholders to keep cargo moving smoothly.

As Port Operations Coordinator, you will play a key role in ensuring high-quality local port and customs operations. You’ll support efficient processes across the business, assist with terminal coordination, manage feeder transport requirements where applicable, and contribute to contract optimisation and cost monitoring.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Process & Quality Management

  • Monitor terminal costs and improve transparency

  • Act as a key link between Customer Services, vendors, terminals and other departments

  • Support smooth cross-functional workflows

 

Terminal Coordination & Problem Solving

  • Work closely with terminals, customs and authorities to resolve operational issues

  • Manage exceptions such as break-bulk or irregular cargo

  • Ensure timely and sustainable solutions to disruptions

 

Contract Maintenance & Optimisation

  • Support the management of local vendor and terminal contracts

  • Ensure accurate utilisation of operational systems (OPUS, spreadsheets, port systems)

  • Maintain high standards of process quality and data accuracy

 

Feeder Planning (where applicable)

  • Coordinate daily feeder transport requests, including DG and VGM matters

  • Ensure costs are correctly captured in systems

  • Maintain strong vendor relationships and support schedule changes

 

Communication & Stakeholder Support

  • Provide accurate updates to internal and external stakeholders

  • Support invoice amendments and operational reporting

  • Ensure high levels of client and stakeholder satisfaction
     

What We’re Looking For

  • Vocational qualification or equivalent

  • 3–5 years’ experience in shipping, port operations or feeder environments

  • Strong knowledge of customs procedures and IMDG regulations

  • Excellent written and spoken English

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Highly organised, methodical and able to prioritise workload effectively
    Comfortable working under pressure in a busy operational setting

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office / Google Suite (OPUS experience desirable)
