Employment Type: Permanent, Full time

Hours: 40 hours per week

Leaving the Armed Forces? Build your next career with The AA. We recognise the leadership, resilience, technical expertise and decision-making skills developed through military service, and we’re committed to helping you transition into a rewarding civilian career.

If you have experience in mechanical, engineering or technical roles, your skills could be the perfect fit for an AA Roadside Patrol. We’ll provide the specialist training, support and development to help you succeed.

Whether you’ve served as a Vehicle Mechanic, REME, Royal Engineers, RAF Mechanical Technician, Royal Navy Marine Engineer, Recovery Mechanic, HGV Mechanic, or in another technical, engineering or maintenance role, your experience could provide an excellent foundation for becoming an AA Roadside Patrol.

This is the job

As an AA Roadside Patrol, you’ll help our members when they need it most. You’ll diagnose vehicle faults, carry out roadside repairs where possible, keep customers safe and make informed decisions to get them moving again.

Working independently with the support of an experienced operational team, you’ll use your technical expertise, problem-solving skills and calm approach to deliver outstanding service.

What will I be doing?

  • Responding to roadside breakdowns and managing each incident through to resolution
  • Diagnosing mechanical, electrical and electronic vehicle faults
  • Carrying out safe roadside repairs where appropriate
  • Completing dynamic risk assessments to ensure everyone remains safe
  • Communicating clearly and reassuring customers
  • Working with other AA teams to coordinate onward journeys when required
  • Developing your technical skills through ongoing training

What do I need?

We’re looking for people with:

  • Mechanical, engineering or technical experience gained through military service or civilian employment
  • Strong problem solving and fault-finding skills
  • Excellent communication and customer service
  • The ability to work independently and make sound decisions
  • A safety first mindset
  • A full UK driving licence

You don’t need experience with every aspect of modern vehicle technology. We’ll provide training in fault code diagnostics, hybrid and electric vehicles, modern roadside repair techniques, and you’ll work towards achieving the IMI Level 2 Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Routine Maintenance Activities.

Most importantly, we’re looking for people with the right attitude, willingness to learn and commitment to delivering outstanding service.

Additional Information

As a valued member of The AA team, you’ll enjoy a fantastic range of benefits, including:

  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, with the option to buy more
  • Worksave pension scheme with up to 7% employer contribution
  • Free AA Breakdown Membership from Day 1, plus 50% discount for family and friends
  • Discounts on AA products, including car and home insurance
  • Employee discounts on healthcare, shopping, travel and more, including a car salary sacrifice scheme
  • Company-funded life assurance
  • Ongoing learning and development opportunities
  • Employee Assistance Programme and a 24/7 remote GP service for you and your family

Plus, many more great benefits to support your wellbeing, career and lifestyle.

If you’re ready to put your military skills to work in a role where every day is different, we’d love to hear from you. Join a team that values your service and will invest in your future.
