Planning – Shaping Tomorrow’s Communities Today

Our Development Management Service plays a fundamental role in shaping the future of Wiltshire by determining planning applications for new developments. We support the Council’s business plan through encouraging new development, promoting economic growth, and protecting and enhancing the environment for sustainable development.

As a Senior Urban Design Officer, you will be part of the new Conservation and Design Team, working on matters relating to good design. This will include day-to-day scrutiny of proposed new developments at every stage – from development plan making to the decision-making of planning applications – working closely with the Council’s planners, applicants, partners (including Design Review partners) and all others interested in the planning process.

Senior Urban Design Officers seek to improve proposals and lift the quality of new development across the county. You will be expected to provide innovative and creative solutions to support sustainable development in line with Wiltshire’s place-shaping objectives. Additionally, you will provide support and guidance to the Council’s officers and members, to help educate them on the importance of good design.

Why us?

Wiltshire Council is a friendly, welcoming place to work, with a ‘One Council’ ethos. That’s why we focus on getting the things that matter to our people right. As part of our agile and high-performing team, you’ll enjoy:

• Flexible working hours.

• Hybrid working arrangements with modern, open plan offices.
• Career development opportunities.
• Exciting and varied projects that make a real difference to our communities.
