Job Summary:
The Capitol CMG Finance team is looking to fill a Staff Accountant role that is critical in ensuring accurate overhead accounting, fixed asset accounting, and strong financial understanding throughout the business. This role partners closely with FP&A, Operations, and A&R / Marketing teams to drive clarity, consistency, and best practices.
This role is for someone who enjoys combining technical accounting, analytical thinking, and cross-functional collaboration.
Job Functions:
- Own the end-to-end sundry, overheads, and other expenses workflow in accordance with GAAP and UMG accounting policies
- Own local accounts payable system, workflows, and liaise with regional teams when invoice and payment issues arise
- Own the local travel and entertainment accounting workflow including auditing local employee expense reports for compliance with global travel policy, and training employees on expense report preparation
- Drive monthly overhead analysis and actively participate in month-end close process
- Educate non-finance teams on best practices related to G/L coding and A/P processes by creating and maintaining simple, practical guides and training materials
- Partner with FP&A and budget owners to drive overhead forecasting
- Actively oversee the fixed asset ledger to subledger accounting and actively partner with UMG teams on adjustments as needed.
- Actively review internal controls for compliance, including PO management. Assist in controls design and testing
- Assist with all internal and external financial audits
- Assist with the preparation of journal entries and reconciliations
- Other special projects as assigned
Job Requirements:
Skills/Abilities:
- Must be able to meet demands of a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and competing priorities
- Both oral and written communication skills needed to educate staff and document processes
- Comfortable taking initiative, being self-motivated, requiring minimal supervision
- Strong financial systems skills and proficient with Microsoft Excel
- Proven high level of organization and attention to detail
- Experience actively participating in key aspects of the financial close and forecasting
- Driven by accuracy of results
- Intellectual curiosity
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
- 2+ years of proven and relevant finance/accounting experience, preferably with an entertainment company
- Exposure to an environment where internal controls are a high priority
- CPA license a plus
