We are currently looking for a Trainee Forensic Psychologist to join our team at Cygnet Hospital Bierley. This position is available to those already enrolled on a practitioner psychologist programme only.

Working as part of an experienced Psychology team you will have support from Clinical and Forensic Psychologists as well as close working relationships with MDT Specialisms related to our patient’s needs.

You will be joining us on a full time, 5 days per week basis.

Cygnet Hospital Bierley provides a range of acute and low secure mental health services for men and women. All our services are provided under the umbrella of a recovery orientated approach and are reviewed through the CPA framework. We are passionate about offering trauma informed care and the psychology team are considered integral to this.

The Opportunity:

An exciting opportunity to join an established psychology team providing a clinical forensic psychological service to clients in a low secure hospital setting. 

Our aim is to provide you with guidance and supervision to become a HCPC Registered Psychologist. The successful candidate can be supported to transition to a preceptorship and ultimately qualified psychologist position within the team.

This role will involve working as part of a Psychology team working closely with Psychiatrists, Occupational Therapists, Nurses, Social Workers and Health Care Support Workers.

You will be providing highly specialist psychological assessments, formulations to inform treatment planning; and individual and group therapy. Within the MDT setting you will be expected to offer psychological insight and knowledge, and advise non-psychology staff on psychological principles and understanding of behaviours displayed by service users. In addition, you will be expected to formulate and implement psychological treatment, interventions and management plans for individual clients relating to their diagnosis and risks.

The post-holder will have a key role in the development of others and of the service. You will also have involvement in audit, policy, service development and the assessment and interpretation of outcomes.

You will have:

  • An upper-second class honours degree or higher in psychology.
  • A masters degree in forensic psychology
  • Experience of working within an adult forensic mental health setting or another forensic setting 
  • You will need to be completing a Psychologist Practitioner Programme such as the BPS qualification in Forensic Psychology or the Cardiff Met Programme.
